ABOUT EUROCARILLON

EUROCARILLON is a non-profit organization associating carillon players. Its aim is to promote the carillon art, i.e. the art of playing the carillon, in Europe and, at the same time, rehabilitate the carillon as a full valued and specific concert instrument.
The greatest number of these instruments can be found in Holland - more than two hundred, and in Belgium - over one hundred. However, we meet these instruments also in France, England, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Lithuania, Russia and in the Czech Republic.
The first EUROCARILLON Festival was held in Bruges-Belgium. And it was also here that the idea of founding an associating originated. At every festival carilloneurs from various countries play not only original compositions for the carillon, but above all, transcriptions of compositions for other musical instruments - thus they promote the riches of European music in another, very singular manner. The festival concerts are traditionally successful and popular. The festival is organized every year, each time in a different member country. France hosted the 1996 Festival in Lyon; in 1997 it was Barcelona-Spain. In 1998 it was held in Berlin-Germany and in the year 1999 in Holland where the Festival was going on simultaneously at several places. In the year 2000 the Festival took place in Birmingham-England, in 2001 in Praag-The Czech Republic for the historically first time in the country of Central Europe and in 2003 in Cobh-Ireland. In 2005 the festival will be organized in The Netherlands.
